First Deadline for Buck-IRB to Huron Transition

Due to the size and complexity of Ohio State’s portfolio of more than 7000 active IRB studies, the transition from Buck-IRB to Huron will occur in phases. After hearing feedback and to further ease the transition burden on researchers and ERIK team members, two data migrations will take place.

Any pending new study, amendment or continuing review submissions (e.g., incomplete, modifications required, deferred) in Buck-IRB will not be migrated into the Huron system. To allow time to complete screening IRB/exempt reviews in Buck-IRB and minimize the disruption to operations, migration will occur in two phases targeted for March 4 and March 21. The following are suggested dates to optimize chances for approval before the final migration - following these guidelines will help reduce the chances of starting the application process in Buck-IRB and missing the window for review, necessitating the need to submit the same application in Huron.

  • January 13 – Deadline to submit initial review non-exempt applications in Buck-IRB.
  • February 3 – Deadline to submit annual status reports, continuing reviews and amendments in Buck-IRB (note that annual status reports will no longer be required in the Huron system).
  • February 17  Deadline to submit exempt applications in Buck-IRB. If a study is determined not exempt upon initial review and the January 13 deadline has passed, researchers should wait until Huron goes live to resubmit.
  • February 24 – Deadline to submit personnel change requests, event reports and external amendments (note that events requiring prompt reporting between February 24 and Huron go-live should be reported by emailing IRB-reporting@osu.edu).
