Clinical and Translational Science AI Innovation (CTS-AI) Award

The goal of this award is to fund a highly meritorious interdisciplinary translational science project to develop novel AI tools that advance health for all. 

The goal of this award is to fund a highly meritorious, interdisciplinary translational science project to develop novel AI tools that advance health for all. It is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences’ (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program. 

A CTS-AI translational science project may emphasize a particular research area, but it must generate innovation that overcomes longstanding challenges along the translational research pipeline. This includes scientific, operational, financial and administrative innovations that transform the way that research is done, making it faster, more efficient, and more impactful.

Applicants are encouraged to align their proposed work with NCATS’ Translational Science Principles:

  • Address unmet needs
  • Produce generalizable solutions for common and persistent challenges
  • Leverage creativity and innovation in research design, conduct, and facilitating factors, with the goal of increasing the impact of the research
  • Leverage cross-disciplinary team science
  • Enhance the efficiency and speed of translational research
  • Utilize boundary-crossing partnerships
  • Use bold and rigorous approaches (including FAIR data and reproducible findings)

The award program’s co-directors and program manager will host an optional information session that includes Q&A time for participants

Ideation Workshop

Prospective applicants have the opportunity to present proposal ideas in a virtual workshop designed to elevate the strength and quality of proposals through early peer and panel feedback. Attendees include a mock review panel that provides expert feedback, and other members of the Ohio State and Nationwide Children’s Hospital community. Up to 15 presentations can be accommodated in the workshop, on a first come, first served basis. 

Participation in this ideation workshop is not a required to submit a pre-application, and feedback in this workshop is not indicative of application success. 

To participate as a presenter, choose the “Presenter” option in the registration form and come prepared to share a three-minute presentation that includes:

  1. The translational science-directed research question 
  2. Project significance, including the barriers for translational research that it addresses
  3. Research strategy, including data management plan and rigor of the study
  4. Expertise and/or resources you are seeking (if applicable)
