Coding Bootcamp: Version Control with Git
Kick-off the fall semester with a hands-on workshop on using Git and GitHub for solo or collaborative version control!
Whether you are new to writing code or a grant-laden principal investigator wanting to brush up on the basics, committing to best practices for code management is an essential part of the research process. Participants will learn:
- Why version control is important
- How to set-up and work with a local Git repository on the command line
- How to use GitHub as a remote repository for collaboration
This workshop will be held on Zoom and will not be recorded. It is open to graduate students, faculty and staff researchers from all disciplines. No prior experience is required, but participants should have or create a GitHub account.
Installation instructions will be sent to registrants approximately one week before the workshop.
This event will be taught by Matthew Thompson and Elizabeth Campolongo from the Imageomics Institute and is presented in partnership with OSU Code Club and the Research Commons.
Can’t make it this time?
For more opportunities to practice or get started coding during the semester, check out the workshop on R for Scientific Reproducibility (Monday 8/17) or join one of The Ohio State University’s coding communities for researchers:
- OSU Code Club: Weekly informal meeting focused on learning R
