These tools enable researchers to store, analyze and use data to improve healthcare by enhancing efficiency, maintaining accuracy and collaborating effectively throughout their projects.

Need Data Support?

The Ohio State University offers numerous data sources for researchers, but effectively navigating these resources can be daunting. To assist faculty and staff in this process our Data Navigator acts as the first point of contact. The Data Navigator provides a high-level explanation of regulatory and institutional processes regarding these databases, identifies potential collaborators and addresses initial data-related questions. The navigator helps clarify requests, coordinates efforts and links investigators with domain experts for different data sources.

Grant Writing Programs

The CTSI offers a variety of grant writing programs to help researchers at all career stages develop competitive proposals and secure funding for their translational science projects. Whether you are a junior investigator seeking your first grant, a mid-career researcher looking to expand your skills and network or a senior faculty member willing to mentor the next generation of translational scientists, we have a program that suits your needs.

K12 Early Career Training Grant

The CTSI K12 Career Development Grant funds early career investigators to conduct clinical or translational research and develop their research skills as they progress to be independently funded researchers.

The CTSI K12 supports the career development of investigators committed to patient-oriented and translational research.

The Ohio State University Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) K12 Mentored Career Development Grant is designed to develop a group of well-trained early-stage faculty investigators through individualized training to engage fully, succeed and lead in translational research and science. Building upon the successes of the Ohio State CTSI KL2 program, the training programs and educational infrastructure will foster a pipeline of early career clinician scientists with training that promotes scientific curiosity and discovery. We will sustain and enhance a culture in which translational scientists can collaborate to accomplish trans-disciplinary research that results in improved clinical outcomes.

The K12 program is open to any assistant professor engaged in clinical or translational research or science, who has less than three years of service in that role at the time of appointment. The K12 Award is available for a period of three years (contingent on satisfactory progress), with two years of CTSI funding and a third from the scholar’s home college/department.

The Ohio State CTSI seeks proposals that address scientific questions consistent with the our mission to fund research across the Translational Spectrum from the biological basis of health and disease to interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public (see NIH NCATS Translational Science Spectrum).

NIH CTSA Predoctoral T32 Mentored Research Training Program- Closed

The T32 grant provides full-time research training support for post-candidacy predoctoral learners pursuing mentored clinical and translational research or clinical and translational science who are enrolled in any Ohio State graduate degree program.

The CTSI Predoctoral T32 training program leverages the large, collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment at Ohio State to increase the reach of clinical and translational science education and training across campus and recruits and develops a diverse cohort of learners to become the next generation of clinical and translational scientist leaders. This mentored research training grant is part of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) prestigious Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award program and is funded through the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). The T32 is one of the education and training components that is part of the renewal of the CTSI’s multi-million dollar center grant from NIH and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS).

This program replaces the previous TL1 training program from the CTSI.

T32 awardees will receive:

  • Travel funds to attend national meetings
    • Including the annual Translational Science meeting from the Association for Clinical and Translational Science
  • Access to the CTSI professional services and staff
    • Including biostatistics, subject recruitment and human subjects approval
  • Access to a training curriculum
    • Clinical and translational research methodology and specialized training seminars
  • Stipend support awarded at the NIH allowed annual maximum
  • Tuition and fee award

A Focus on Health for All

A special focus of the T32 training grant improving health for all. There is an urgent need to expand and rigorously train a clinical and translational scientist workforce that will deliver innovations with intentionality to achieve improved health for all. The education and training to produce researchers capable of leading these efforts requires specialized instruction in clinical and translational science to bridge the gap between the lab and the clinic. Training in clinical and translational science is anticipated to promote cross-fertilization between disciplinary boundaries that will accelerate translation through clinical and translational discovery stages that ultimately bring innovations to all communities. The CTSI Predoctoral T32 will provide training through coursework, seminars, lunch and learn programs and other training initiatives.

CTSI Predoctoral Trainees and Projects

Carrying On the Legacy of the TL1

The CTSI Predoctoral T32 Mentored Research Training Program continues the legacy of trainee success of the CTSI TL1 Mentored Career Development Program funded from 2008 to 2023. The new Predoctoral T32, provides the same excellent training opportunity for predoctoral students on their journey to becoming clinical and translational researchers as the previous TL1.
